Dr. Stephen W. Christian, Senior Pastor and Bishop, shares the message, “Your Purpose” on Sunday, August 8, 2010.
So many are struggling in life trying to figure out, what is my purpose. See Romans 8:28 (KJV) “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.”
Romans 8:28 (NLT) “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
All things are working together for the purpose for all that God has given them because it is HIS purpose. His purpose is our purpose. There are not many visions in God. If we have a number of visions we have “di” vision. God’s vision is that His glory may be filled in all the earth and included in that purpose is that people would be brought to Christ.
We are called according to His purpose and the purpose He has given us. If there is only one purpose, then why are we trying to figure out the purpose He has given us. What am I supposed to be? Lawyers, doctors, singers, engineers, and so on are occupations not purposes. Unless God has impressed upon your spirit that He has a specific occupation, you can be anything you want to be. God does not have any personal favorites among occupations. Doesn’t like the preacher anymore than the doctor, not the athlete any more than the teacher.
People want to know if I’m in the “right place.” God does not have a favorite place, he chose the people of Israel and took them to a specific land, not because of them or because of the land of Jerusalem. God often used other nations around Jerusalem to accomplish his purpose.
All of the earth belongs to God, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and they that dwell therein.” He has no favorite place, so God wants his people to cover the earth in all parts and places.
What about your husband? God doesn’t have a favorite man. You are supposed to love everybody with the same kind of love. You are not love your husband anymore than you love me. The love is the same, but the relationship is different. Love your neighbor as yourself and love your wife as yourself demonstrates this fact.
God is interested in fulfilling His purpose. Unless He specifically sends you to a purpose you are free to choose an occupation, a place to live, a person to marry, and so on.
The one thing that never changes is your purpose
God has one purpose for you and for me. Your purpose and my purpose is the same as His purpose. We all have the same purpose. ONE PURPOSE.
Matthew 22:37-40
Love the Lord your God will all your heart, soul, and mind and love your neighbor as yourself
Mat 22:37 NLT – Jesus replied, “ `You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’
Mat 22:38 NLT – This is the first and greatest commandment.
Mat 22:39 NLT – A second is equally important: `Love your neighbor as yourself.’
Mat 22:40 NLT – All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
Nothing ever changes this purpose — where you work, where you live, if you marry, if you divorce, and so on…
In a simple version, your purpose is to love God, love people, and tell people about Jesus. This purpose never changes through the changes of life. It’s independent of occupation, social status, relationship status, financial status, health status, and so on. Your purpose never changes!
The second part of your purpose is found in Matthew 28:19-20
Go and teach
Mat 28:19 NLT – Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Mat 28:20 NLT – Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Acts 20:24 But my life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God’s wonderful kindness and love.
